My name is Kelly Davis. I am your 2021-22 State of Maryland Literacy Association (SoMLA) Chair Elect and Chair of SoMLA’s 50th annual conference to be held March 31-April 2, 2022. I am in my 40th year in education, with experience as a general education and special education teacher, in addition to serving as a Department of Special Education Resource Teacher in the Howard County Public School System. I currently serve as an Elementary Social Studies Resource Teacher for the Howard County Public School System Curriculum Office. I describe myself as a “teacher without borders”.
My “bumper sticker” is “Education for ALL, Responsibility of ALL.” My passion is mentoring teachers’, working with families, and inspiring teachers by modeling highly engaging lessons grounded in research. I am co-author with Linda Hoyt and colleagues in the Heinemann publication, Solution for Reading Comprehension. This year’s conference will be virtual, opening up many opportunities for participants. We have an amazing line-up of speakers and engaging activities for participants. The conference theme for 2022 is “Literacy, and Justice, for All!” This theme is to pay tribute to our late friend and literacy leader, Judi Hunter. Not only did we lose an amazing person, her 2020 conference, “Literacy, and Justice, for All!”, was cancelled due to the pandemic. This year’s conference theme is to honor Judi and her vision, to break barriers, increase opportunities and access for ALL to receive the best literacy experiences. Select the conference tab on this site for updates.
