Greetings from your 2022-23 Chair!
My name is Kelly Davis. I am your 2022-23 State of Maryland Literacy Association (SoMLA) Chair and Co-Chair of SoMLA’s 51st annual conference to be held March 30-April 1, 2023. I am in my 40th year in education, with experience as a general education and special education teacher, in addition to serving as a Department of Special Education Resource Teacher in the Howard County Public School System. I currently serve as an Elementary Social Studies Resource Teacher for the Howard County Public School System Curriculum Office. I describe myself as a “teacher without borders”.
My “bumper sticker” is “Education for ALL, Responsibility of ALL.” My passion is mentoring teachers’, working with families, and inspiring teachers by modeling highly engaging lessons grounded in research. I am co-author with Linda Hoyt and colleagues in the Heinemann publication, Solution for Reading Comprehension.
This year’s conference will be virtual, opening up many opportunities for participants. We have an amazing line-up of speakers and engaging activities for participants. The conference theme for 2023 is “Cultivate Literacy Through Multiple Lenses” . A wide variety of session topics will be offered, each aligning the the conference theme.

I'm pleased to serve as the 2020-21 SoMLA Chair. As a recently retired Harford County Public Schools teacher, I hope to lead you through this unusual year.
