ILA Honors SoMLA Chapters with Honor Award Recognition
March 14, 2026 -- The State of Maryland Literacy Association (SoMLA) proudly congratulates several Maryland chapters that have earned the International Literacy Association (ILA) Honor Award, a prestigious recognition presented to local literacy chapters demonstrating exemplary service to educators, communities, and the global literacy movement.
The ILA Honor Award recognizes chapters that organize and sustain well-rounded programs supporting professional learning for educators, literacy initiatives in local communities, partnerships with state and international organizations, and advocacy for literacy advancement. Chapters are recognized annually for accomplishments during the previous program year.
Maryland chapters receiving this honor exemplify the mission of both SoMLA and the International Literacy Association by strengthening literacy instruction, supporting educators, and promoting reading and writing opportunities for learners of all ages.
“SoMLA is incredibly proud of the leadership demonstrated by these chapters,” SoMLA released in a statement. “Their commitment to literacy education, community engagement, and professional collaboration reflects the very best of what literacy organizations can accomplish together.”
