The Young Authors Committee shall sponsor an annual writing contest for students in Grades 1 through 12 at the local and state levels, compile and publish winning entries from the state level in an anthology for student winners, conduct a celebration for the state winning authors at the annual conference, and encourage local councils to conduct a celebration for local winners.
Young Authors Contest is underway
SoMLA's 2020-21 Young Authors' elementary, middle, and high school contests are now underway in participating chapters across the state. Students in grades 1-12 are encouraged to submit original works of poetry and/or short stories to meet local deadlines. Those winners' names will be forwarded to SoMLA by January 15, 2021 with state winners announced in mid-March and a celebration to follow (hopefully!) in April. For more information and connections to local contests, contact the state chairs at youngauthorssomla.es@gmail.com (elementary), youngauthorssomla.ms@gmail.com (middle), and youngauthorssomlahs@gmail.com (high).
WINNING YOUNG AUTHORS FOR 2019-20 announced!
SoMLA regrets that students, parents, teachers, and local chapter representatives will be unable to participate in a live ceremony to recognize the winning young authors this year. The anthology, however, is available here for all to read! Please join us in celebrating the works of these young ladies and men in grades 2-12!
